Coming Soon & When it Started

Since 1995, Easter Celebrations (aka Weekend-long Family Reunion aka Feaster Easter aka OMG!) have been a Big Deal for the Big K Family and it's time to share the hints, tips, processes and recipes that have been accumulated along the way.

Easter has always been my FAVORITE holiday and, once upon a time, I, with Hubster's complete support, decided to own it and make it as much fun, as full of love and overflowing of food as the winter holidays. Many generations have gathered in our home (wherever that may be); we have had as few as one guest (who was late to dinner) and as many as 23.

That first year began as a (mostly unorganized) potluck with people perching wherever they could with their heaping plates. The Sunday Easter Dinner tradition has since been 'set' where everyone crowds around ONE table (or at least in the same room) and the togetherness of family and family-friends is a warm welcome to the season.

Traditions have grown as have the youngest members. About ten years ago, a nephew approached with a fairly complex and unique recipe he wanted to try for the Saturday night meal. And then it began: Saturday Night Guest Chef. One guest is in charge of the menu and recipe, and everyone else pitches in as needed. When guests begin arriving as early as Thursday and depart as late as Tuesday - there's plenty of room and time for trying all kinds of recipes - and everyone's a foodie around here.

And that's what it's all about, staying connected as a family, taking that time out from life to reconnect. And cooking. And eating. And laughing. And cocktailing. And sharing. And storytelling. And washing dishes, dying eggs, playing games, and laughing (did I mention that already?) and eating (that's pretty darned important to the whole Feaster Easter thing).

So follow the blog, stand-by, and get ready for the first post right here on Easter Day 2020. And then enjoy the posts to follow. There'll be recipes and decorating tips and crafting ideas and plenty of photos throughout the year - all Feaster Easter themed.

Until then - know that my Easter Prep list is at the ready (it may or may not be laminated), the Saturday Night Guest Chef has NOT volunteered yet, but the Sunday Dinner menu has already been decided.

Happy Easter!
